It is with pleasure that I announce Dylan Chapman as the Member of the Month for July 2020. His achievements have been remarkable over the past season to be bestowed with this honour. Most notably, Dylan has been awarded the U18 Junior Lifesaver of the Year by both our club and branch. We wish him all the best at the upcoming state awards of excellence. Dylan began his journey in surf lifesaving when he joined as an under 8 nipper 10 years ago obtaining all junior age awards. Since, he has gained numerous lifesaving awards including his officials and coaches accreditation, IRB Drivers, Silver Medallion Beach Management, and Emergency Care awards. Dylan has put his skills and awards to good use through volunteering over 600 hours as a patrolling member and water safety officer. In the coming seasons, Dylan hopes to attain his trainers’ qualifications and take up a position on the management committee. In Surf Life Saving, he mostly enjoys the vast opportunities that cater to the different qualities of members and he hopes to inspire junior and senior members alike to find their passion in lifesaving. Whether it be parents getting more involved with their kids in nippers, the youth attending excellence programs or youth nights, or members gaining awards they never thought they would. In the movie of his life, ‘One Step Forward, Two Steps Back’, Chris Hemsworth starring as Dylan Chapman would have his work cut out for him. Losing the cape and hammer, Hemsworth would be dusting off his apron to slap out some skins at Pizza Capers. Completing his final year of high school and recently completing his cert III in sport and recreation through the surf club, Dylan aspires to become an aerospace engineer through the defence force with minors in biomed. Congratulations Dylan and we look forward to your continued involvement in our amazing surf club.
