Oliver “Never Wrong” Henwood has the honour of being named member of the month for August 2020. His journey began years before he started as a little green cap when his older brothers started way back in 2002. He attained all junior activities awards and is one of few members to be selected in the South Coast Branch though he wasn’t too pleased about having to compete in speedos. Oliver was quite successful competing as a nipper and has continued his competitive nature through various disciplines in the senior club. Most notably, last year he was selected in the Queensland Cyclones State IRB Racing team. After obtaining his Surf Rescue Certificate 6 years ago, Oli jumped straight onto patrol and has volunteered an outstanding 660 hours between the red and yellow flags. He has also contributed an additional 515 hours to educating, training, mentoring as water safety for our nippers. Not to mention, he has also gained every award contributing to patrol strength. From the clubs’ point of view, it is great to see our youth gaining these awards and ensuring our clubs commitment to providing lifesaving services for many years to come. To recognise his efforts and achievements this season, Oli was named our clubs U21 Young Surf Lifesaver of the Year and successfully took out this award for South Coast Branch. His physical appearance changed quite drastically several months ago when Oli took part in the World’s Greatest Shave. Most people now would have grown accustomed to his new short style of hair as he pours drinks of a Sunday arvo as a bartender for the supporters club. Oli has also worked casually as a Lifeguard and hopes to be employed full time by the council to watch over the patrons on the beaches of the Gold Coast. Congratulations Oliver, you are an inspiration to all our members, junior and senior alike!
