The Member of the Month for October 2020, who has been trying to “receive this award for the last 12 months”, goes to Nicholas Owens. He joined Surf Lifesaving back in late 2015 with the kids and has watched them from being petrified in the water to competing in carnivals. Joining in on the fun, Nick has gained both his Bronze Medallion and IRB Crew Certificate. He recaptures his youth and loves racing around in the IRB, of course with the exception when Dylan’s driving. Nick has achieved an extraordinary amount and since joining with us, has been a valued club member. Last season, Nick was highly commended for the Rookie of the Year award for his near 100% attendance on rostered patrols, additional 30 hours as water safety and stepping up as the nippers’ gear steward. Off the beach and to the delight of all club members, he replaced all the shower heads in the men’s and women’s areas (no more loss of pressure!). Nick is widely experienced outside Surf Lifesaving with more than 20 years in all trades. He owns his own business, Crystal Waters Plumbing and Drainage, and quotes himself to be “the best plumber on the Gold Coast”. He enjoys the mornings and swinging the clubs every Saturday with his son. In the UK in 2008, Nick won the fastest front wheel drive car. Congratulations Nick, we look forward to your continued involvement in our great surf club!
