The Member of the Month for September 2020 is Janita Henwood. Neet, or Peanuts as she was called in her earlier years, had a remarkable season in 2018/19 being named the Andy Frizell Junior Activities Member of the Year for Queensland and one of the first females inducted as a Life Member for Miami. Well deserved for member who has contributed 9 years as Junior Activities Chairperson, over 1000 hours to patrol, many seasons as coach of the swim rotation and also carnival coordinator for which Miami is the best on the coast. Janita has gained 85 awards recognised by surf life saving over the last 18 years, volunteered as a patrol captain for 9 and coached several weekly training sessions. Her hours as recorded by the club are not a true reflection of the exorbitant amount of time she’s volunteered for the surf club. Janita started out as a nipper back in 1973 when she joined Yamba SLSC with her 6 brothers, dad and uncles. This was one of several sports she undertook in her childhood but later joined with her children at Miami in 2002. Between the years, Janita stayed on the front line as a paramedic before turning to home duties to look after her family (and extended family). It’s her love of working with children through nippers that’s furthered her aspirations to become a teacher aid. Janita loves the beach and the surf club lifestyle. Not many people would know that sunrise is her favourite time of day and that she once ate a full 2L tub of ice-cream in one sitting. Congratulations Janita, the club is lucky to have you.
