Surf Rescue Certificate
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations. This course is the minimum water safety qualification for Junior Activity supervision.
Requirements:

Must be 13 years on or before the date of assessment
-
Complete a 200m timed pool swim in under 5 minutes
-
For this award to remain current candidates must perform an annual proficiency check
Bronze Medallion
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations. This is the core award to be a surf lifesaver in Australia.
Requirements:
-
Must be 15 years on or before the date of assessment

Complete a 400m timed pool swim in under 9 minutes
-
For this award to remain current candidates must perform an annual skills maintenance activity. It is recommended that this be completed by the 31st December of each year (or 31st July in Northern Australia)
IRB Crew Certificate
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations.
Requirements:

Must be 15 years on or before the date of assessment

Be currently proficient in Bronze Medallion
-
For this award to remain current candidates must perform an annual proficiency check, or as needed / requested.
Silver Medallion IRB Driver
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations.
Requirements:
-
Must be 17 years on or before the date of assessment

Be currently proficient in Bronze Medallion and IRB Crew Certificate
-
Hold a current Queensland Marine Licence
-
For this award to remain current candidates must perform an annual proficiency check
Silver Medallion Beach Management
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience required to manage a lifesaving or lifeguarding team in emergency and non-emergency situations. The course is aimed at people wishing to be patrol captains and senior lifeguards.
Requirements:

Must be 17 years on or before the date of assessment

Gold Medallion (Advanced Lifesaving)
Aims:
The aim of this award is to provide lifesavers with a benchmark of fitness and endurance that meets the minimum requirements for work in the professional lifeguard industry.
Requirements:

Must be 17 years on or before the date of assessment

Bronze Medallion (and your Certificate II in Public Safety)

Silver Medallion Beach Management or Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management

This award is valid for only 12 months. The whole assessment must be undertaken again each year for the award to remain current
Advanced Resuscitation Techniques [AID]
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and application of oxygen, airway management devices and automated external defibrillators during resuscitation, as well as the administration of oxygen to conscious and unconscious victims.
Requirements:

Must be 15 years on or before the date of assessment

Be a financial member of a Surf Life Saving Club

For this certificate to remain current participants must perform an annual skills maintenance
First Aid [AID]
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to manage emergency first aid situations until professional medical support is available.
Requirements:

Must be 14 years on or before the date of assessment

Be a financial member of a Surf Life Saving Club
-
For the First Aid award to remain current, you must maintain your skills in the First Aid module every three (3) years
Radio Operators Certificate
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to operate communications systems and equipment in surf lifesaving operations.
Requirements:

Must be 13 years on or before the date of assessment

For this award to remain current candidates must complete an annual proficiency. This skills check should be undertaken in accordance with State/branch requirements and procedures.
Junior Activities Age Manager
Aims:
The SLSA Age Managers course has been developed to assist members in their role as an age manager. It will allow them to develop a greater knowledge about how SLS operates, and provide them with the skills and knowledge to assist them in the successful coordination and delivery of the Nippers’ program.
Requirements:

Must be 15 years on or before the date of assessment

Have completed the relevant state/territory legislation check(s) for working with children

Be a financial member of a Surf Life Saving Club
ATV Operator
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to operate an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) in a safe and efficient manner.
Requirements:

Must be 17 years on or before the date of assessment
-
Hold a current Queensland Drivers Licence
-
For this award to remain current candidates must perform an annual proficiency check, or as needed / requested. If a candidate’s state driver’s license lapses or is cancelled, they are then considered to be non-proficient in this award and must complete another proficiency when they regain their state driver’s license.
Rescue Water Craft Operator
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with advanced skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage a Rescue Water Craft (RWC) in lifesaving operations.
Requirements:

Must be 18 years on or before the date of assessment

Be currently proficient in Bronze Medallion
-
Hold a current Queensland Drivers Licence with tow capacity
